The Grand Ledge Varsity Baseball team rolled past Waverly on Tuesday, advancing to the district semifinals on Saturday, June 2nd at Grand Ledge High School. The Comets will battle Okemos in a district semifinal set to begin at approximately 12 noon at Gorman Field.
Just prior to the game Grand Ledge will honor Coach O’Keefe for his 50 years serving as coach of the Comets. This short ceremony will begin just prior to the National Anthem before the Comets and Chiefs take the field.

Pre-Distrcit vs Waverly Warriors

Winning Pitcher: Logan Hylek (4-0)
The Comets faced off against the Warriors in the Pre-District game at Gorman Field. Although the game was at GL, the Comets were the visiting team in the district format.
After the Comets were held scoreless in the first, Logan Hylek took the mound. Hylek struck out 1in a scoreless first inning.
After a leadoff single by Dominic Guzman, the Comets got on the board when Cal Johnston launched a 2-run HR over the right centerfield fence. 2-0 Comets
Despite a couple of baserunners, Hylek was able to work out of the 3rd inning with no damage.
After the Comets failed to score in the 4th, the Warriors got on the board when a double to right scored the runner from second. Braedon Stoakes relieved Hylek with one out and a runner on third. After a walk, Stoakes got the next batter to fly out to right. With the runner tagging from third, Johnston caught the ball and threw a strike to home, cutting the runner down at the plate and ending the inning.
The Comets extended their lead in the 5th when Hylek and Johnston each hit RBI singles.
Noah Warren came into the game a hit a 2-run double in the 6th and then hit another 2-run double in the 7th. Logan Ashley added a pinch-hit single in the 7th.
Hylek tossed 3 1/3 innings, striking out 5. Stoakes work 2/3 in relief, while Payton Wieber tossed 2 scoreless innings. Justin Meister threw the 7th, securing the win for the Comets.
With the win, the Comets move on to face the Okemos Chieftains in the District Semi-Final on Saturday, June 2nd.
The Comets improve their record to 28-2
