The Comets won the first game of the Bay City Western Invitational, beating Birmingham Seaholm 6-0

Elliot Patten dominated for Grand Ledge, throwing a complete game shutout, scattering 3 hits and striking out 5

In the 1st,Braedon Stoakesled-off the game with a single. After a Kaleb Burkewalk, Aaron Westroped a single to right, scoring Stoakesand giving the Comets a quick 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless 2nd, the Comets got 2 more runs in the 3rd. Stoakesonce again singled and after another Burkewalk, Westdrove in Stoakeswith a single. Burkescored on a successful suicide squeeze by Logan Hylek.

In the 5th,Dominic Guzmanlaid down a perfect suicide squeeze scoring West. Two batters later, Logan Todd knocked a single to score Guzmanand Johnstonto cap off the scoring.

Guzman, Stoakesand Westall had 2 hits, while Westand Toddeach had 2 RBI

After a scoreless 1st, the Comets got on the board first, when Logan Toddripped a single to right field, scoring Logan Hylekwho reached on an HBP and Dominic Guzmanwho singled.

Western played some small ball in the 2nd, scoring 5 runs to take a 5-2 lead.

In the top of the 3rd, GL cut into the lead when aggressive baserunning allowed Braedon Stoakes to score on a groundout by Logan Hylek

The Warriors increased their lead in the 4th, when they scored 4 runs off of Justin Meister and a couple of Comet blunders.

GL got 2 back in the 5th, when Kaleb Burkedrove a double in the left center gap scoring Stoakeswho previously reached on an infield single. Burke later scored on a sacrifice fly by Cal Johnston

In the bottom of the 5th, Bay City Western put the game out of reach when the scored 3 additonal runs and closing out the game with a 12-5 win.


The Comets record is now 16-2 on the year
