The Grand Ledge Varsity Girls’ basketball team went on the road on Friday, January 26th to begin the second half of the CAAC Blue season and came home with a 71-21 victory over Lansing Everett.
With the win the Comets improved to 5-3 in the CAAC Blue.
Makenzie Todd led the way with 20 points to go with three steals and two assists. Macie Hefron pulled down eight rebounds and hit double digits in points with 12. Courtney Saarland added six points and six rebounds with five big blocks.
Grand Ledge raced out to a 17-7 lead after one period and pushed the advantage over the Vikings to 41-14 at the half and cruised the rest of the way.
On Tuesday the Comets returned home to face a very good St. Johns team in a non-league tilt and fell 52-38.
The visiting Red Wings led 15-8 after one period and 27-19 at the half. The Comets cut the lead to six in the third quarter before an 11-0 run by St. Johns pushed the cushion to 41-26 heading into the fourth quarter. Grand Ledge outscored the Redwings 12-11 in the fourth but it was too little to late.
Saarland had a great all around game, with 14 points, six rebounds and five blocks. Makenzie Todd led the way with 17 points.
The Comets are back in action this Friday at home against Okemos. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
