Grand Ledge improved to 11-1 on the season after a pair of victories over Lansing Everett and St. Johns to set up a battle for sole possession of first place in the CAAC Blue this Friday night at GLHS.
The Comets defeated Lansing Everett 75-51 on January 26th, avenging their only loss of the season. With the win Grand Ledge kept pace with Okemos in the CAAC Blue. Both teams are locked in a first place tie with identical 8-1 league records.
“It was great to see the guys work as a team,” coach Scott Lewis said. “They were talking about it all week, how they wanted to beat them because it was our only loss.”
The Comets came out in the first half with a strong team defensive effort and key offensive contributions from Jarred Houghton and Javel Lewis as GL built a comfortable halftime advantage. In the third quarter each team scored 17 points and Grand Ledge sealed the victory sinking their free throws in the final minutes, including Luke Smith who didn’t miss any foul shots in the final stanza. For the game, Grand Ledge made 78 percent of their shots rom the free throw line.
Al McCready led the way with 21 points while Lewis finished with 15 points. Grand Ledge had excellent performances off the bench with Ethan Cummings and Jarred Houghton combining for 21 points.
The Comets added a non-league win to their resume with a convincing 70-43 victory at St. Johns. Lewis led the team with 14 points and Ethan Cummings added 11.
Grand Ledge will tip off at approximately 7:30 p.m. against Okemos on Friday following the girls’ varsity game.
