The Grand Ledge varsity girls softball team heads to Okemos on Saturday to begin MHSAA tournament play against the Red Wings of St. Johns.
The Comets wrapped up a perfect CAAC Blue Season with a double-header sweep of Okemos on May 26th to clinch the league title.
Against the Chiefs, Grand Ledge broke open a scoreless tie with a three run seventh to get the win. Kahlei Etheridge had the big hit for GL with a double and three runs batted in. Rachel Palfrey added two hits.
In the nightcap the Comets jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead en route to a 6-1 victory to clinch the double header sweep.
Bennett again pitched all seven innings to get the win, allowing just four hits and one run with four strikeouts.
Kenzie Trierweiler, Bei Rodriguez, Lindsay Goodman, Etheridge and Olivia Dawson all had a pair of hits each for Grand Ledge, including a double by Morrisey and Goodman and a triple for Dawson. Goodman knocked in two runs.
The Comets end the CAAC Blue Season with a perfect 14-0 record. Grand Ledge takes a 34-2 overall mark into Saturday’s MHSAA District Tournament. Grand Ledge takes on St. John’s in the semifinal at 10:00 a.m. at Okemos High School.
