The Grand Ledge Varsity Baseball team advanced to the semifinal round of the Diamond Classic with an impressive 5-0 victory over Portland at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Wyatt Rush remained undefeated on the mound for Grand Ledge, tossing a complete game shutout. Rush finished with eight strikeouts and allowed only two Raider hits.
Xavier Farr led the way offensively for Grand Ledge at the plate with double and triple while scoring three runs. Sam Goodman had a pair of hits including a big two-run single that pushed the Comets in front 3-0 in the fifth inning. Grand Ledge added two more runs in the seventh to push their cushion to five runs.
Grand Ledge advanced to the semifinal round of the Diamond Classic on June 5th and will face either Holt or St. Johns.
The Comets, ranked 9th in Division I, improve to 28-6 on the season. Grand Ledge is back in action on Saturday, May 27th at Midland High School for a 10:00 a.m. doubleheader.
