The Grand Ledge varsity girls softball team will take a 27-0 record into Friday’s Softball Classic title game against Eaton Rapids. Game time is set for 7:00 at Ranney Park in Lansing.
The Comets improved to a perfect 10-0 in the CAAC Blue with a doubleheader sweep at home Thursday with a pair of wins over rival Holt.
Grand Ledge cruised to a 10-3 victory in the opening game against the Ram with a 13-hit attack and another impressive performance on the mound from Nina Bennett. The sophomore pitcher allowed only three hits with just one walk while striking out six.
At the plate, Emily Songer led the way with three hits while Lindsay Goodman and Rachel Pelfrey each had a pair of hits.
It was more of the same in the nightcap with the Comets scoring a 9-1 victory. Songer got the win on the mount, tossing all seven innings allowing only four hits with no walks.
Offensively, Goodman had a home run and a double to lead the way. Teammate Olivia Dawson also had a pair of hits.
On Wednesday, the Comets shutout Charlotte in the semifinals of the Softball Classic to advance to the title game. Bennett had maybe her best game of the season for the Comets, striking out 13 Orioles while allowing only four hits and one walk.
At the plate, Songer was 3 for 4 while Kenzie Trierweiler, Dawson and Kahlei Ethridge all had one hit.
