The Comets traveled to Jackson to open their CAAC Blue campaign on a what turned out to be a sunny evening for soccer.
The Comets were able to carry play early in the game and created a number of goal-scoring opportunities. Brittany Dale (’17) and Melanie Srouji (’18) combined up top to give a potent attack.
Midway through the 1st half, a freshman made her mark on the game. Avery Seling (’20) found herself on a mini breakaway that she was able to finish after the Viking goalkeeper made an initial save. It was Avery’s first goal of her career for the Comets. Hannah deSilva (’18) provided the assist. The same two players combined again late in the first half as Hannah was able to find Avery in the box. Avery’s right footed finish to the left corner gave the Comets a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Comets opened the 2nd half the way they finished the first. Cassidy Pettinger (’18) struck from distance with her left foot to give the Comets a 3-0 lead. Brittany Dale (’17) then got on the end of a long pass from Hannah deSilva and she was able to beat the goalkeeper and the Viking defenders to score to seal the game.
The Comets did concede a late goal, but held on for a 4-1 victory.
