The Comets hosted perennial powerhouse Rockford on an overcast evening. It was the Comets 3rd game in 4 days, but they were up for the challenge.
Early in the game, Melanie Srouji (’18) was released on a breakaway by Brittany Dale (’17) and she calmly went around the goalkeeper and slotted home from a tight angle to give the Comets the lead. It was Melanie’s team-leading 3rd goal of the season.
The Comets continued to apply pressure with Melanie leading the way. A good period of possession eventually led to Melanie laying a pass off to Cassidy Pettinger (’19) whose shot hit the crossbar.
Midway through the 2nd half, Rockford was able to get behind the Comet’s defense, but their forward hit her shot wide of the goal.
With only a minute to play, Jordan Skutar (’17) made the biggest save of the game as she was able to catch a high free kick that looked destined for the back of the goal. Jordan stood tall and was able to gather the shot to secure the 1-0 victory and recorded her first career shutout.
