The Grand Ledge varsity wrestling team continued their successful season last Saturday with one of the teams best performances ever at a MHSAA Individual District.
Five Comets were crowned as MHSAA District Champions, part of 11 total Grand Ledge wrestlers who advanced out of the district tournament and into the February 18th Individual Regional.
The CAAC Blue champion Comets are at Holt on Wednesday, February 15th looking to defend their Division I Team Regional Championship.
At the individual district Senior Nic Lloyd made it 39 wins in 40 matches this year while capturing the district title at 285 pounds. Teammate and freshman Andrew Hughes is also 39-1 after winning the championship at 103 pounds.
Senior Cole Janes was impressive all day at 112 pounds with a big 6-4 win to claim first place. Janes is now 31-5 on the year. Teammate Jack Snauko cruised to the championship at 130 pounds while improving to 36-2 on the season.
Sophomore Karson Cost captured the fifth individual title of the day for the Comets, winning the 1st place medal at 135 pounds.
Adam Aguliar placed 4th at 215, Alex Kingsley was third at 119, Ryan Legal was fourth at 119, Wesley Barnes placed fourth at 171, Braeden Riggs was third at 285 and Adam Castaneda ended the day in 4th at 130.
Grand Ledge will be at Pinckney on Saturday, February 18th for the Division I Individual Regional tournament with 11 Comets hoping to advance to the state finals.
