The Grand Ledge varsity boys wrestling team officially kicked off the post season on Wednesday at East Lansing High School for the MHSAA Team District Tournament.
The Comets defeated Okemos 77-6 in the semi-finals before handling Lansing Everett 69-12 to claim the District championship. This is the 8th time in the past 10 seasons that Coach Steve Delaney and the Comets have won a MHSAA District title.
Last night was a great night for our team and community,” coach Delaney said. “This senior class has won 4 district titles and 3 conference championships. They are going to go down as one of the most successful classes in hour storied history.”
The Comets claimed their third straight CAAC Blue title over the weekend.
“I’m very proud of our team and their efforts at the district tournament,” Delaney said. “Each guy went out and did his job and we came away with two going away victories. Now our focus is on Individual districts and team Regionals next week at Holt.”
The Comets will be at Holt next Wednesday for the Team Regional. Wrestling will begin at 6:00 p.m. Grand Ledge will face off against the winner of the Brighton Regional.
Individual Districts begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Jackson Parkside Middle School.
