The Varsity Competitive Cheer Team continues to impress in the 2016-17 season. The Comets have won their last two competitions outright.
This past weekend Grand Ledge High School hosted a 28 Team Invitational. During the afternoon Varsity competition, the Comets took on 10 of the best teams in the area. T’he Comets came out strong and broke the school record in Round 1 and are now ranked in the Top 10 in the State.
After Round 2, the team was in solid first by 10 points over DeWitt, Portage Northern and Pewamo Westphalia. At the end of Round 3, Grand Ledge sealed the deal by beating the second place team by more than 48 points. It was awesome to finish so strong on our home floor.
“This is the strongest competitive team that I’ve coached but all our teams from previous years have built the foundation for this program,” coach Sue Horak said. “They will be going far this year if they can stay healthy and continue to work hard and build on their success.”
The team travels to St. Johns for the second of three League meets on Wednesday. Start time is 6:00 p.m.
