The Grand Ledge varsity gymnasts won their second conference meet of the season at St. Johns on January 11th. Seniors Janelle Hall and Afton LaFrance were sidelined due to illness and injury respectively, but the rest of the team stepped up and had a strong performance.
On vault, Sophomore Arianna Guerrero was 1st with an 8.30, Junior Samantha Hetzer and Senior Carsen Perry tied for 2nd with 8.25, and Sophomore Maggie Mullins was 3rd with an 8.20.
On uneven bars, Guerrero was 1st with an 8.175, Hetzer was 2nd, and Mullins finished 3rd.
On beam, Perry was 1st with and 8.75, Guerrero was 2nd, and Mullins was 3rd.
On floor, Guerrero was 1st with an 8.85, and Mullins was 2nd with an 8.325.
Guerrero won the all-around with a 33.30, Mullins took 2nd, and Hetzer was 3rd.
Haslett Invitational – 1/14/17:
The Grand Ledge gymnastics team and nine other teams traveled to the Haslett Invitational on Saturday, January 14th. The Comets finished in third with a 136.025. Fowlerville/Byron placed second with a score of 137.70, and the combined team of Linden/Fenton/Lake Fenton took first with 138.675.
In the individual events, the top twelve in each event were recognized. Senior Carsen Perry took 2nd on beam with an 8.925. Senior Afton LaFrance tied for 8th on vault with an 8.55, 1st on uneven bars with a 9.0, 3rd on beam with an 8.75 and took 3rd in the all-around competition with a 34.95. Senior Janelle Hall was 4th on vault with a score of 8.80, and 12th on beam with an 8.075. Junior Samantha Hetzer was 8th on bars with an 8.25 and 6th on beam with an 8.60. Sophomore Arianna Guerrero was 6th on bars with an 8.45 and placed 11th in the all-around.
The Comets have their next competition at 6:30pm at Holt on Wednesday, Jan. 18th followed by the Kenawa Hills Invitational on Saturday, January 21st at 10am.
