The Grand Ledge 8th grade boys’ basketball team hosted the Trojans of East Lansing on November 21st and it was an exciting, high scoring evening for both squads.
“It was a well rounded team effort tonight,” said coach Pat Helmic.
The A-game was an intense back and forth heavyweight battle from start to finish with both teams delivering big shots one after another. The Jr. Comets took the first quarter 18-16 and went into halftime tied 38-38. East Lansing narrowly took the lead in the third quarter 59-57.
The forth quarter stayed true to the flow of the game going back and forth with short lived six point leads for each team before Grand Ledge was able to take a one point lead with less than 30 seconds remaining. The visitors then regained the final possession with under 10 seconds left but was unable to get a final shot off giving the Comets a 76-75 victory.
“By far, that was the highest scoring game I have ever been a part of at the middle school level,” said Coach Helmic after the game. “It was also one of the best games I’ve been a part of.”
