The Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving season concluded Saturday with more records being broken and history being made. The team set three new school records and finished a program best 17th overall in Division 1.
The group, comprised of seniors Katie Thomas & Meg Pope, junior Emma Cornell, sophomore Abby Ford & freshmen Lola Mull & Grace Weston recorded an epic performance on the campus of Oakland University.
The team was led by Lola Mull who topped off her stellar freshman season with her best swims to date. First she swam to a new school record time of 1:52.29 in the 200 Freestyle & placed 6th in the state. Her time in that event was good for 3rd All Time in Lansing swimming history!
Next up Lola competed in her best event, the 500 Freestyle. There she swam to a 3rd place time of 4:52.39. Her time goes as a new school record, a new 13-14 age group state record, the fastest time in the history of the Lansing area, the 9th fastest 500 Free in MHSAA history & as an All America qualifying standard!
Senior Katie Thomas closed her outstanding career with new best times in the 200 & 500 Freestyle respectively. Her time of 1:57.24 was good for 32nd place in the 200 Freestyle and her time of 5:09.97 was good for 20th place in the 500 Freestyle. Both times are the 2nd fastest in GL school history.
Freshman Grace Weston finished her season very strong with best times in both the 200 Individual Medley & 100 Breaststroke. In the 200 IM she swam to a time of 2:14.23 and a 37th place finish and in the 100 Breaststroke she swam to a time of 1:08.02 and an 18th place finish. Her IM time was good for 2nd in GL history & her time in the 100 Breast was good for 3rd all time in GL history.
The trio of Emma Cornell, Meg Pope & Abby Ford each competed in one individual event. Cornell placed 36th with a time of 25.19 in the 50 Freestyle, Pope placed 28th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:09.17 & Ford placed 30th in that same Breaststroke event with a season best time of 1:09.19.
In Relay action the team of Cornell, Ford, Mull & Thomas swam to a new school record time of 1:41.35 & placed 20th while the team of Thomas, Cornell, Weston & Mull swam to a time of 3:41.76 & a 22nd place finish.
