The Girls Varsity Golf team is having a tremendous year both as a team and as individuals.
The girls played a great round on Tuesday, September 20th at the Holt Jamboree, with an unexpected twist as Cassidy Clevenger filled in for an ill Lauren Mida paced the victory with a career low 44! The score was tied after the low four scores were added up. To settle the event the tie breaker was initiated, which uses the fifth score to determine the victor and Vienne Sereseroz came through with a wonderful 51 to secure the victory that pushed into a tie for the conference championship with two events left in the season.
The counting scores were Cassidy Clevenger 44, Maddie McKinley 46, Kaylee Hirschman 48, Aspen Locker 48 and tie breaker Vienne Sereseroz with a 51. CONGRATS girls on a tremendous match.
At the Mason Invitational the Blue Team finished the event in great fashion posting a 4th place finish which was highlighted by Lauren Mida & Katie Ransom winning the Two Person Scramble portion of the event by posting a fabulous 78. We followed that up by heading to the Okemos Invitational where the girls finished 3rd behind some stellar play from Kaylee Hirschman (85 finishing 5th individually) & Katie Ransom (92) but the best part of the day was Katherine Davidson shooting a career best 98 to secure the third place finish for the Lady Comets.
Grand Ledge then headed down to Marshall for the Redhawk Invitations and the girls again showed their promise by shooting a team best 375 and finishing 4th behind perennial powers St Joseph, Jackson Lumen Christi and Mason. The team was by juniors Maddie McKinley (career best 87) and Kaylee Hirschman (88) both of whom received medals for finishing 8th & 9th respectively.
The Comets then headed to the Falcon for a fun day with all league schools participating, doing something different just for fun for the girls with a little pizza party afterwards. This event was hosted by East Lansing and our girls again showed they are a force as Kaylee Hirschman & Maddie McKinley lead the Comets to victory by shooting a truly awesome 31.
This was followed up by Mason Scramble Champions Lauren Mida & Kaite Ransom. The pair shot a 34 to lead the way for the Comets. Cassidy Clevenger & new comer Vienne Sereseroz secured the victory with a solid 38.
At the St Johns Invitational the girls performed nicely, although this was not our best team performance individually. The Comets did great paced by Kaylee Hirschman (87 finishing 7th individually) followed by another solid performance as Katie Ransom shot 94.
WELL DONE GIRLS!!!
As our season enters the final few weeks the Lady Comets find themselves in a first place tie in the difficult CAAC Blue division with powerhouse Okemos.
“The girls have three more conference events in which to challenge for that elusive Conference Championship and I believe they will rise the challenge,” Grand Ledge coach Jeff Miller said. “We have a tremendous group of young ladies that have worked very, very hard this season and I can not see a more fitting conclusion to this conference season than having the opportunity to compete for the conference title.”
