The Grand Ledge Varsity Golf Team advanced to the Division I MHSAA State Finals with a third place finish at the Regional Tournament held last week at Cedar Chase in Cedar Springs.
The Comets finished with a team total of 326, four back of 2nd place Forest Hills Central and 10 off the pace of Regional Champ Battle Creek Lakeview.
Senior Bubba Chester led the way with a low Comet round of 77 followed by junior Luke Bunting carding a 79. Senior Trevor Mohnke fired a 84 while fellow seniors Conner Horstmanshof and Jason Arbour turned in respective scores of 86 and 88.
Grand Ledge now advances to the finals scheduled for June 10 and 11 at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University.
You can follow the Comet golfers with the MHSAA’s new “live scoring method”. While live scoring has become the norm at many PGA, NCAA and other high profile amateur golf events, it is relatively new to the high school golf world.
The MHSAA is partnering with a live scoring company called Birdiefire (www.birdiefire.com ) to develop a method for giving coaches, parents, peers and others instant access to live scores every three holes directly from The Meadows whether they are there or not.
The best thing about this new system is that it is completely FREE at this time.
The direct link to the BirdieFire live scoring system for MHSAA Division 1 is : http://bfire.co/-f1168/ Please remember that this link will not be active until Friday morning when the Division 1 Golf Finals starts at 9:00 a.m.
Also – if you are planning to go watch the Comets please note the following travel tips:
Participants using M-45 (Lake Michigan Drive) coming from the east or west must use the GVSU main entrance off M-45.
Participants coming from the south on 48th Ave. will be directed over to 42nd Ave. that is the GVSU main south entrance.
There will be Meadows directional signage on M-45, 48th and 42nd. Once participants are on campus there will also be signage directing to The Meadows.
Basically, use the north or south main GVSU campus entrances and follow The Meadows arrow signs.
