Grand Ledge opened MHSAA tournament play on Tuesday, May 31st at home against Battle Creek Lakeview. The host Comets erupted for six runs in the second inning on their way to a 13-1 win in six innings to advance.
Grand Ledge made it 10-0 in the fourth before added three more in the sixth. The Comets will host Holt at Noon on Saturday in a Division I District Semi-Final matchup.
Emily Songer led the offensive attack with two hits, including a 3-run homer while knocking in a total of four Comet runs. Kaylee Dumond plated three GL runners with a double while Bri Rodriguez had three hits on the day. Kenzie Trierweiler had two hits and two RBI while Emma Craig and Kahlei Ethridge each pounded out two hits.
On the mound Nina Bennett went the distance, striking out four to get the win.
Grand Ledge is now 32-4 overall. The Comets are back at it on Thursday, with the finish of a suspended game against Okemos. The game will be picked up at 4:00 p.m. with the score tied at 4-4 in the 8th inning. Grand Ledge is 12-1 in the CAAC Blue and can win a share of the league title with a victory.
