With their MHSAA tournament life on the line the Grand Ledge varsity baseball team rallied for 7 runs in the final two innings, erasing a 5-0 deficit to score a 7-5 win against a very good Battle Creek Lakeview team in Pre-District action on May 31st.
With the win Grand Ledge improves to 29-3 and advances to face rival Holt at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in a MHSAA District Semi-Final at Gorman Field.
Trailing 5-0 heading to the sixth inning, the Comets chipped away at the Spartan lead with two runs in the top of the sixth before the seventh inning fireworks.
Seniors Zach Hanes, Luke Lalumia, Cooper Alspaugh, Brendan Baker, and Cam Collins all had two hits to help the Comets put five on the board in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead but it was senior Jordan Goebel had the game winning two-run double that broke a 5-5 tie with two outs in the 7th.
Reminder – Grand Ledge will host the district tournament on Saturday. There is a $5.00 per person admission fee that covers all baseball and softball games. The Grand Ledge softball team will play at Noon vs. Holt. The Comet baseball will play at 10:00 a.m. vs. Holt with the winner playing either Battle Creek Central or Jackson at approximately 2:00 p.m.
