The Grand Ledge Girls Varsity Lacrosse team opened their 2016 season against Lowell on Saturday, March 26. Due to field conditions at Lowell, the game was played on the turf at Forest Hills Central.
Lowell won the opening draw but it was Grand Ledge that got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Taylor Tripp. The Comets then opened a 2-0 lead off a goal from Danika Fenska. The Comet lead didn’t last long as Lowell scored three unanswered goals. Danyelle Hardy then scored twice in a row for Grand Ledge to put them back on top but once again Lowell scored three in a row and took a 6-4 lead to close out the first half.
The second half was more of a defensive battle. Grand Ledge was able to score three more times with two goals from Abbey Turner and one from Talli Rodriquez. Each time the Comets scored Lowell was able to counter with a goal of their own and sent the Grand Ledge Varsity girls home with a 9-7 loss. Olivia Guerra was in goal for the Comets and recorded nine saves.
