Varsity Polo Notches 3rd Win Despite Shooting and Defensive Troubles
The Grand Ledge/Waverly Water Polo Team traveled to East Lansing to play the combined team of Holt/East Lansing Monday night. Despite defeating Holt/E.L. by 13 goals several weeks ago, the Comets found themselves in a tight battle.
After finishing the first half in a 7-7tie, the Comets outscored their opponent 5-2 in the third period. This advantage proved to be just enough for the Comets, who fought off
a late rally to win 16-15. The Comets recorded a season-high 45 shots in the victory, barely scoring one out of every three shots taken. They look to continue bombarding the goal with shots on Wednesday as the JV travels to Battle Creek Central and on Friday as varsity travels to Ann Arbor Huron for districts. Owen Soulliere led the Comets with 6 goals. Evan Ilieff added 4 of his own. Cam Wessels and Greg DeWitt each added two goals of their own. Finally, Trevor Spitzley and Tommy Sereseroz each added one goal a piece.
