The future continues to look bright for the Comet Football program as the freshman team moved to 4-0 with a 50-20 win on September 13 against Okemos.
The Comets began the scoring when Caden Evert capped off a 40-yard drive with a touchdown run and a 6-0 lead. The Grand Ledge defense forced a Okemos fumble and Robert Willoughby picked it up and raced 20 yards to the house for the score. Evert’s made it 14-0 with a successful run on the two-point conversion.
Quarterback Jacob Baldwin hit Brendan Baker from 21 yards out to push the Comet lead to 21-0. On the ensuing kickoff Alex Platte forced a Okemos fumble that Willoughby pounced on at the three yard line setting up Jacob Songer’s three yard sprint and a 28-0 Grand Ledge lead.
After an Okemos score Songer returned the kickoff 74 yards setting up Platte who hit the endzone from 9-yards out and a 35-6 lead. Evert’s added a 17-yard scoring run Willoughby recovered his third fumble of the game and rambled in from 30 yards for the 50-20 final.
