Grand Ledge wins in a hard fought 5 set match with Jackson. the girls volleyball team traveled down down to Jackson in what turned out to be a grueling 5 set match. The Lady Comets easily took the first set 25-9, mainly on the strong serving of Amy Oswill who had 4 aces in a string of 13 straight serves. Cori Crocker was big at the net with 2 blocks and a kill during that stretch.
The Vikings bounced back winning the second set 25-20 and led the 3rd set 6-0. However the Comets had a momentum run of their own tying the game at 6-6. From there on it was a battle to the end with the teams exchanging leads and no team having more than a 2 point lead. Grand Ledge took that 3rd set 25-23.
The 4th set was a nail bitter. With the score tied at 9-9 again it was a battle to the end with 7 tied scores and 5 lead changes. This time it was Jackson who won 27-25. This set up the deciding 5th set to just 15 points. The determined Comets took the lead at 5-4 and held that lead the rest of the set winning 15-12. The match ended with kills by the two big middles Alexis Lotycz and Cori Crocker.
Both Alexis and Cori finished with a team high 14 kills. Karlie Lambie added 7 kills and Kelli Combs contributed 5 kills. Libero Maddie Baker had 32 digs, while Taylor Fitzgerald dug 27 attacks. Kelli Combs had 27 assists, 5 blocks and 13 digs. Lexis Pettinger had 10 assist, 2 crucial ones to Kelli Combs in that 5th set.
The win put the Lady Comets 2-1 in the conference and 12-7-1 overall. Grand Ledge heads to Grandvillle for a tournament this Saturday and will face Eastern next Tuesday at home.
