PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETE STEP BY STEP CHECKLIST

Ninth and Tenth Grades
1. Meet with high school guidance counselor regarding course selection in order to:

  • Meet high school graduation requirements.
  • Adequately prepare for the rigors of college work.
  • Meet NCAA initial-eligibility requirements.

Eleventh Grade
1. Register to take the ACT and/or SAT test.

  • When registering for the ACT/SAT, students must select the clearinghouse as one of the recipients of their test score.
  • Code: 9999

2. Register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse and Amateurism Clearinghouse at the end of junior year – www.ncaaclearinghouse.net

  • Registration fee: $50 for domestic students and $75 for international students

3. After student registers, the high school must mail an official transcript to the clearinghouse.

  • The clearinghouse must have a transcript with at least six semesters represented to do a preliminary certification.
  • Transcripts may be sent by regular mail or overnight delivery. Transcripts cannot be faxed.

4. Review transcript carefully before sending it to the clearinghouse. Compare courses on transcript to courses approved by the NCAA. The list of approved core courses is available on the Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse website at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net

  • Are the course titles correct? [Note: If the course title on the transcript does not match what is on the high school’s list of approved core courses, the course will not count as a core course.]
  • Are the grades correct?
  • Are the units of credit correct?

5. Continue to work with your high school guidance counselor to monitor course selection.

Twelfth Grade
1. Continue to work with your high school guidance counselor to monitor course selection.
2. Student must request final certification from the Amateurism Clearinghouse.
3. After high school graduation, the high school must mail a final transcript to the clearinghouse.

  • Transcript must show proof of graduation.
  • Transcripts cannot be faxed.

4. Review transcript carefully before sending it to the clearinghouse. Once the clearinghouse receives a final transcript, it will not use an amended final transcript.

***Students will not receive final certification by the clearinghouse until the clearinghouse has received the student release form, test scores and a final copy of the high school transcript.***
