Grand Ledge Varsity Football Opens with Victory over Hudsonville before a Packed House

Grand Ledge fans┬ápacked the Community Stadium on Thursday night for the Grand Ledge varsity football team’s home opener against Hudsonville.

The Comets thrilled the home crowd with a 41-14 victory over a very good Eagles team.

Senior Nolan Bird was impressive all day, throwing for 229 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Comets. Senior Cal Johnston was on the receiving end of two of those touchdowns and finished with five catches for 127 yards for Grand Ledge.

Varsity Football vs Hudsonville 4Jacob Umholtz led the Comets ground attack with 78 yards rushing and a touchdown while Jayke Houghton made a great over the shoulder catch for a score.

A big shout out to the Comet Student section who proved to be loud and proud the entire night led by the varsity cheer team. Awesome performances by the always impressive Comet marching band and the GL Pom team entertained the festive crowd at halftime.

Grand Ledge is back in action on Thursday with a big game at DeWitt High School. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
