Grand Ledge hosted the Regional gymnastics competition on Saturday, March 4th at Grand Ledge High School. In a very closely contested meet, Grand Ledge finished in second place and earned a spot in the State Championship Friday, March 10th at Plymouth-Canton High School. Also qualifying was Brighton in first place and Howell in third.
In individual events, senior Janelle Hall was 2nd on vault with a 9.20; senior Afton LaFrance was 3rd with a 9.175. On bars, sophomore Arianna Guerrero tied for 6th with an 8.425, and on beam she tied for 8th place with an 8.925. LaFrance was tied for 2nd with a 9.10. LaFrance won the floor to earn an individual regional championship with a 9.55 while Hall tied for 5th with a 9.325.
LaFrance was rewarded for her outstanding regional performance with the Division II all-around title with a score of 36.10. Hall tied for 6th with a 35.275, LaFrance is the 2017 Division 2 Regional Champion with a 36.10. All three girls have qualified for the individual competition.
The team will compete for a State Title on Friday, March 10th in Canton. The individual competition is on Saturday, March 11th.
A big thank you goes out to meet director Vania Hall for her outstanding efforts to make the regional a huge success. The Grand Ledge parents and coaching staff also did an incredible job setting up and working the event and were essential to the smooth running meet.
