After missing out on the Gold Cup Final match, the Comets had one more game before they started MHSAA District play. The Comets hosted Okemos, who they had defeated in the regular season 1-0.
Comets Drop Finale – Prep for Districts

Early the in the game it appeared as though the Comets were going to control the match. In the 11th minute, Kyle Salisbury (’17) got free at midfield and outran everyone before cooly finishing his seventh goal of the season. Hudson Morgan (’18) was able to find him from deep in the defensive third.
The Comets kept pressing and played a number of balls behind Okemos’ defense. Hudson Morgan’s header beat the Okemos goalkeeper but hit the crossbar before going out of bounds.
Immediately after halftime, Kyle Salisbury’s left footed effort was saved by the Okemos goalkeeper. However, the Chieftains answered when the Comet backline was pressed and turned the ball over. Andre Owczarzak finished his mini-breakaway to tie the game. With only 6 minutes remaining in the game, Okemos freshman Hondo Arana scored a volley to give them the lead.
The Comets were able to create a few chances in an attempt to tie the game including a Hudson Morgan attempt that went just wide of the goal as time expired.
The Comets finished the regular season with a 10-1-4 record, which is the best winning percentage in school history.
They move on to the MHSAA District #2-1. The opening match will be at Caledonia on Tuesday, October 18 with a 6pmkickoff. The winner of the game will advance to play the winner of the Rockford vs. Wyoming game on Thursday, October 20th at 5pm at East Kentwood’s Pat Patterson Stadium. The district final is scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd at 5pm at East Kentwood.
