Girls Swim v Okemos 4
The varsity Swimming & Diving team claimed another victory on September 21th, this time over the DeWitt Panthers, 110-76.
The team was led by senior Alexis Everett and junior Emma Cornell. Everett placed 2nd in the 50 Free at 28.30 & won the 100 Backstroke in 1:13.26 to claim her first win of the season. Cornell was able to claim two wins first in the 200 IM (2:23.89) and then in the 100 Breaststroke (1:14.68).
Senior Meg Pope swam to a season best time in the 200 Freestyle and a first place finish in 2:07.44 & freshman Grace Weston registered a season best time of 5:33.31 en route to winning the 500 Freestyle. Fellow freshman Lola Mull placed 1st in the 100 Freestyle at 56.72 to close out the individual highlights.
On the relay side Mull, Weston & Cornell were joined by senior captain Katie Thomas to claim the top spot in the 200 Medley Relay with a winning time of 1:56.91. Mull, Thomas & Cornell were then joined by freshman Danielle Ries to win the 200 Freestyle Relay in 1:47.50. Finally Pope, Weston & Mull were joined by sophomore Abby Ford to win the 400 Freestyle Relay in 3:58.61.
On Saturday the team travelled to East Grand Rapids High School for the prestigious East Grand Rapids Pioneer Invitational. The meet featured Division 1 number one ranked Farmington Hills Mercy and the number 1 team in Division 3 the hosting East Grand Rapids Pioneers.
Freshman Lola Mull highlighted the meet by claiming first in the 200 Freestyle with a new school record and Division 1 state qualifying time of 1:56.10. She was able to follow up that performance with a second place finish in the 500 Freestyle again with a new state qualifying time and new school record time of 5:12.18. Senior Katie Thomas had a strong performance as well as she placed 9th in the 500 Free & 12th in the 200 Freestyle. Freshman Grace Weston rounded out the teams day with a 10th place finish in the 100 Butterfly and a 6th place finish in the 100 Breaststroke.
The team is back in action on Thursday for a pivotal showdown with fellow CAAC Blue unbeaten team from Okemos.
