The Grand Ledge Boys Varsity Tennis played two matches on the same day as both Traverse City Central and Lansing Eastern visited the Comets.  First up for the Comets were the 10th ranked Trojans.  The Trojans won the match 8-0.

The Comets were able to bounce back, in a conference match up against Lansing Eastern, coming away with an 8-0 win.  Even with a split, Head Coach Mark Barrett was pleased with the outcome.

“I thought the boys handled the two matches very well,” Barrett said. “It wasm a great experience to play one of the better teams in the state in Traverse City Central and then play Lansing Eastern, a conference rival where they are expected to win. They did a good job with that.” Barrett said.

The highlight of the day was a thrilling three-set victory for senior No. 1 Singles Branden Haarer.  After dropping the first set 4-6, Haarer came from behind to win the second set 7-5, forcing a deciding third set, which he won 6-2.  Coach Barrett had high praise for his Sr. Captain.  “I thought Brandon did a great job dealing with adversity which included a very stubborn opponent and dealing with cramping,” Barrett said. “He is a fierce competitor.”
